چکیده

Fungi profoundly affect nearly all terrestrial ecological processes and events; accurate information on the fungal component is required to adequately understand how ecosystems function (Trappe and Luoma 1992). When fungal mycelia form particular associations with a host plant’s fine roots, a symbiotic organ forms, called a mycorrhiza. Through this structure the plant provides carbohydrates to the fungus, ABSTRACT

Response of ectomycorrhizal fungus sporocarp production to varying levels and patterns of green-tree retention

Forest management activities can reduce ectomycorrhizal fungus diversity and forest regeneration success. We examine contrasts in structural retention as they affect sporocarp production of ectomycorrhizal fungi (EMF)—a functional guild of organisms well suited as indicators of disturbance effects on below-ground ecosystems. Our results are from an experiment that tests the biodiversity assumpt...

Study of ectomycorrhizal fungi with beech trees in highland beech forests (Farim, Mazandaran province)

In this study, the ectomycorhizal fungi from beech trees in highland beech forests of Farim (Mazandaran province) were identified based on extraction of DNA from roots and sequencing the ITS region of nuclear ribosomal DNA. For this purpose, in the altitude of 1500-2100 meters A.S.L, 30 plot and one plant per each plot were selected randomly and samples were taken from roots in depths of 10 cm ...

Change in soil fungal community structure driven by a decline in ectomycorrhizal fungi following a mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae) outbreak.

Western North American landscapes are rapidly being transformed by forest die-off caused by mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae), with implications for plant and soil communities. The mechanisms that drive changes in soil community structure, particularly for the highly prevalent ectomycorrhizal fungi in pine forests, are complex and intertwined. Critical to enhancing understanding wi...

Specialized cheating of the ectomycorrhizal symbiosis by an epiparasitic liverwort.

Many non-photosynthetic vascular plants in 10 diverse families obtain all of their carbon from fungi, but in most cases the fungi and the ultimate sources of carbon are unknown. In a few cases, such plants have been shown to be epiparasitic because they obtain carbon from neighbouring green plants through shared mycorrhizal fungi. In all such cases, the epiparasitic plants have been found to sp...

Availability of Ectomycorrhizal Fungi to Black Spruce above the Present Treeline in Eastern Labrador

Ectomycorrhizal fungi (ECMF) are an important biotic factor in the survival of conifer seedlings under stressful conditions and therefore have the potential to facilitate conifer establishment into alpine and tundra habitats. In order to assess patterns of ectomycorrhizal availability and community structure above treeline, we conducted soil bioassays in which Picea mariana (black spruce) seedl...
